Well, I'm finally finishing up my five years of university.
Bachelor of Arts in History and English and a Bachelor of Education.
It's been a long five years and this last year has seemed to stretch on forever.
It's made me crave travel, and it's made me crave being in the same spot and having some consistency as well.
Well, must work on portfolio.

Confession: I have yet to read Jack Kerouac's On The Road, mostly because my roomie says it has no chapters so it's very hard to know where to stop....seems like a summer read, when I have unlimited time on Sundays to just sit and read and drink tea or coffee on the porch.
Jack Kerouac has some wise words about confusion versus clarity, the promise of travel and 'the road' as a way of self discovery, passion for life and saying goodbye. I seem to be going "from ditch to ditch" as my Dad would say, feeling completely confident about my choices and then wondering what I'm doing and not feeling prepared, and I'm thinking a lot about saying goodbye to my family from school for a couple years. Those ladies have been a huge part of my life and now we'll be in Sweden, Columbia, Vancouver and Qatar.
Three weeks of school and I'll be driving back to Manitoba. It's a long trip, but it always brings me clarity and makes me fall even more in love with this country.

One of my favorite quotes of all time is by John A. Shedd, from a book titled Salt in My Attic written in 1928. Although I have never read the book and have no idea what Shedd was writing about, he wrote something so deeply profound that it has become one of the pieces of wisdom you come across which resonate deeply and start to shape your life in a way.So, here it is:

I'm excited for what God (and any other guiding forces) have in store for me over the years. In August, I leave for Qatar to teach kindergarten. I have promised friends and family that I would keep a blog, so consider this day one.
(I might post about non-Qatar/teaching related things from time to time as well...).
